Chapter 286.2. A Mysterious Girl

-???’s POV-

It seems that this world has truly come to an end, unbelievably so.

With a contorted expression on his face, Heimdall watched as the girl descended from the goddess statue, her expression turning serious.

“It seems that flames don’t enter this temple. I could clear out Zombies, but the flames disappeared instantly.”

“Oh, it looks like the temple is exceptionally sturdy. Lady’s magic seems to get repelled.”

While clinging to the girl’s swaying shoulders as she hopped down, Heimdall turned his gaze toward the temple.

The flames licked the goddess statue, then headed outside, leaving the temple completely unscathed. It was as if invisible barriers were preventing the scorching flames from entering.

“In that case, magic won’t work, huh? I just got a ton of wafers too.”

“Wafers? What are you talking about?”

“Well, you need snacks for a field trip, right? So, is there a door at the back of this temple that leads to an escape?”

Standing in front of the temple, the girl inquired. Rows of thick, ebony pillars, resembling giant trees made of obsidian, lined up in the temple, and the floor and ceiling were entirely black.

.

Looking up, it had to be a hundred meters high, with passageways wide and tall enough for giants to walk side by side.

Torches burning with an unquenchable pale blue flame were affixed to the pillars, but they only illuminated a small portion of the vast temple due to its size.

“That’s right. Even in my soul state, I can use my [Clairvoyance] to some extent. I used that power and noticed a slight rift in space at the deepest altar.”

“Well, guide me there, will you?”

“Leave it to me, Lady. I’ll guide you through the shortest and safest route. This temple is full of traps, you know.”

Heimdall offered a sly smile as if to demonstrate his power. In the past, this smile had captivated many goddesses.

“Well, okay.”

But the girl was still young, and besides, Heimdall’s form was quite small, so it had no effect.

Disappointed but still willing to lead the way, I gave her instructions.

Our footsteps echoed through the vast, silent temple filled with the scent of death.

While walking through the temple’s corridor, the girl wore a puzzled expression.

“I thought there would be a lot of guardian monsters here, but no one’s around, huh? No Four Heavenly Kings or anything?”

“This world is still under construction. Think of it like an amusement park that hires employees after it’s finished.”

“I see. That’s why security was so lax in their important temple, allowing me to infiltrate.”

Nodding thoughtfully, the girl continued to walk.

The wall paintings depicted fierce giants battling the gods. The pale blue flames cast eerie and unpleasant shadows, swaying with the girl’s every step.

“But why did you enter this world in the first place?”

“To save a friend. I came here to steal a security card, I think.”

“Brave of you to enter a God Realm, even if it’s unfinished. What kind of god is the one you’re trying to save?”

Using my [Clairvoyance], I had seen enough of the outside world to understand the significance of the security card. It seemed that she hadn’t originally intended to come into this God Realm.

“Huh? Not a god. Just a regular human, you know. When she combines with her familiar, a fox, she becomes an adorable fox girl! And she’s so kind, fun, and mischievous—I really love her!”

The girl excitedly spoke, her enthusiasm showing just how much she adored her friend. However, Heimdall found it hard to believe her words and couldn’t help but raise his voice.

“Human? No matter which God Realm you try to enter, you’d be severely limited in power and in danger for your life, right? Would a powerful being like yourself really risk it all to help a human?”

Heimdall regretted uttering those words as the girl’s eyes turned cold and frosty.

“What? Mii-chan has no idea what you’re saying. It doesn’t matter if I’m human, a god, or a giant. I’ll always help the people I care about. Got it?”

“Y-yeah, I got it. My apologies, Lady. That was a thoughtless comment. I’m sorry.”

I quickly apologized, feeling an aura emanating from the girl as she approached me with an intimidating gaze.

“Jeez, gods are so weird. I’ll forgive you.”

We continued to walk, turning corners, opening hidden doors, and jumping over obstacles until some time had passed.

Perhaps an hour had gone by, and it seemed they were nearing the innermost part of the temple. Heimdall tapped the girl’s shoulder.

“We’re almost there, Lady.”

“Is anyone really there?”

The girl looked puzzled, and I chuckled before answering.

“No, there were indeed no guardians. But, using my innate senses or whatever you want to call it, I could sense someone at the innermost part, which is also the exit.”

“Who could that be?”

The girl tilted her head to the side, and I replied with a serious expression.

“Someone stronger than anyone else. Although now they’ve become a mindless monster…”

I let out a deep sigh.

“It’s Thor, who was known as the strongest among us. It should be him, albeit he’s in a sorry state.”

Perhaps sensing the girl’s presence, a chilling roar resounded from the depths of the corridor, freezing the air around us.
