Chapter 33: 33: As Long as You Don’t Look, It Won’t Be Embarrassing!
The two of them bantered and bickered their way to the classroom.
Just as they were about to enter the classroom, they saw Zhou Mianmian at the doorway receiving breakfast from a boy in class eight.
Xie Xiao didn't really care and quickly looked away.
Lin Yu, however, scoffed disdainfully.
While not loud, the sound still caught Zhou Mianmian's attention.
She saw Xie Xiao not looking at her and went straight into the classroom.
Thinking of that friend request that hadn't yet been approved made the breakfast in her hands suddenly feel hot.
For some reason, despite Xie Xiao not saying anything or even glancing at her, she felt somewhat embarrassed.
The boy, clearly excited, asked, "Then, Mianmian, can we have lunch together today?"
Zhou Mianmian didn't want to eat with him.
But the money left in her meal card was running low. Ever since Xie Xiao had topped up her card previously, her spending had become less cautious, not as frugal as before.
Now that Xie Xiao no longer topped up her card, her habits, however, had already formed.
Her grandmother never liked her and only gave her 50 yuan each month, which was hardly enough for a decent meal...
So, Zhou Mianmian was actually living quite awkwardly now.
But she didn't want others to notice, which is why she slowly began to accept some favors from boys.
It was all voluntary anyway, right?
Yan Shi would bring her meals and breakfast sometimes, but he was nowhere as considerate as Xie Xiao had been, nor did he have as many friends, and it simply wasn't feasible for him to bring meals every day or top up her card.
So, Zhou Mianmian was actually quite panicked now, desperately wanting to win back the old Xie Xiao.
But with no progress so far, she could only resort to accepting favors from other boys.
At that moment, she looked at the tall, thin, and dark-skinned boy in front of her and forced a smile, "Sure."
Just then, Yan Shi appeared around the corner with breakfast in his hand.
Zhou Mianmian knew Yan Shi was hot-tempered and feared that seeing the boy might start a commotion, so she quickly told the boy, "You should go back now, it's almost time for morning study."
The boy, delighted, nodded quickly and left.
Yan Shi felt joyful, thinking he was just a little step away from winning over Zhou Mianmian, especially since they had a date yesterday.
He also felt somewhat contemptuous toward Xie Xiao, thinking he was overrated. In the end, he didn't measure up.
Zhou Mianmian had told him yesterday that she and Xie Xiao were not boyfriend and girlfriend, and they had never been together.
Yan Shi glanced at the breakfast in his hand; he had texted Mianmian but she hadn't replied, yet he had still bought her favorite rice noodle rolls.
Then, lifting his head, he saw Zhou Mianmian standing at the door, holding a breakfast bag.
Yan Shi paused, then approached her, asking, "Morning, Mianmian. So you've already bought breakfast? I just texted you."
Zhou Mianmian smiled at him, "I did buy, thank you. Is this for me?"
"Yes, but can you still eat it?" Yan Shi asked hesitantly.
Zhou Mianmian handed her own breakfast over, "Then let's swap. I bought this for you."
Yan Shi was instantly delighted.
Mianmian must like him.
The expressions on the faces of the students near the windows were quite subtle.
They had clearly seen everything that just happened, and were thinking that Zhou Mianmian's behavior after falling out with Xie Xiao seemed… a bit sleazy?
It was quite distasteful indeed.
Their expressions were too obvious.
When Zhou Mianmian entered the classroom, she naturally noticed them too.
Seeing their varied expressions made Zhou Mianmian feel a bit annoyed and uncomfortable.
She didn't want it to be like this...
But in the end, she still softly flashed them a smile before heading inside.
Someone saw Yan Shi foolishly smiling as he followed behind Zhou Mianmian, and a male student who usually got along well with him called out, "Yan Shi..."
Then Yan Shi and Zhou Mianmian turned around to look.
Male student: ...
He waved his hand, "Never mind."
Zhou Mianmian slightly frowned, gripping the bag in her hand tightly.
Then she lowered her head and returned to her seat.
But she reflexively glanced at Xie Xiao as she sat down.
Turns out, Xie Xiao was fiddling with something and wasn't looking at her at all.
In fact, Xie Xiao really didn't have time to pay attention to Zhou Mianmian.
As soon as he had entered the classroom, he saw a box sitting on his desk.
His first reaction was that Zhou Mianmian had again put some random stuff there, and he was about to pick it up and give it back to her.
But then he noticed a note attached to it, the handwriting was very familiar.
It was from Luo Yanran.
The tone on the note was also very cool, "Your reward."
Xie Xiao instantly set the box he had just picked up back down gently.
A smile unconsciously curled up at the corner of his mouth.
Lin Yu glanced over, "Who's the girl this time?"
"Why do you care so much," Xie Xiao responded.
Lin Yu rolled his eyes, too lazy to bother with him.
Just when Lin Yu thought Xie Xiao would treat it like usual, shoving it into his desk and finding an opportunity to return it to someone else.
Xie Xiao opened the box.
Lin Yu was stunned, "You opened it?"
"Yeah," Xie Xiao responded, revealing a chibi ceramic figurine inside.
It was wearing his school's uniform, holding a basketball, and had a smile on its face.
Lin Yu swore, "Isn't that supposed to be you?"
The amusement in Xie Xiao's eyes was too much to contain as he picked up the ceramic figurine and gently patted its head, "Isn't it just me?"
Xie Xiao felt along the figurine's back and the soles of its feet, where a character was engraved.
The character for Xiao.
Xie Xiao had also received this ceramic figurine in his past life.
On his twentieth birthday, Luo Yanran casually tossed it to him, claiming she did it when she was bored.
But since he had just asked for a reward last night and received the figurine today, it meant she had made it well in advance.
It wasn't something she had made casually as she had initially claimed.
Xie Xiao felt a warm buzz in his heart, unable to resist taking out his phone to snap a few pictures and sent them to Luo Yanran, "Miss Luo, I've received the reward, so this is me, right? So cool!"
The reply came back, "No, I just bought it randomly at the school gate, five bucks."
Xie Xiao chuckled lightly, tapping on the Xiao character, "What a coincidence, it has a Xiao character on the sole! We're really fated!"
Luo Yanran, looking at this latest message, couldn't help but cover her face with her hand—she had forgotten that she had engraved it!
Would Xie Xiao think she was a creep, secretly making a ceramic figurine of him!
As if fearing she would continue to justify herself, another message came, "This figurine's basketball looks a lot like mine too, and it even has the autograph I purposely signed to show off back then!"
Luo Yanran gave up and tossed her phone into her desk drawer.
As long as she didn't look at it, the awkwardness would be gone!
